DÉJÀ VU

Eric Feldwebel Dinges die twittert hoe Erg alles is. WELK JAAR IS DIT. Maar toch lijkt het in Shanghai best erg allemaal. En met het (*heropent een ten diepste tribaal coronadebat alsof de pandemie nooit voorbij is geweest*) bedoelen we de zogeheten proportionele maatregelen tegen hun stadsstatelijke loopneus. Maar nog even los van of de nieuwe totale lockdown-maatregelen proportioneel zijn, de mensen hebben wel honger want zo'n voedseltekort ga je toch merken na een paar dagen.

The Guardians Rhoda Kwan vanuit Taipei afgelopen vrijdag: "Stories of desperation are emerging in Shanghai as the city enters its third day of strict lockdown, with increasingly widespread reports of residents being unable to access food, medicine and other essentials. (...) Frustrated cries of help are circulating on Weibo, China’s microblogging platform, where residents complain about a lack of food and haphazard lockdown measures. (...) There were also signs that medical volunteers who have been brought into the city to help with the pandemic effort are themselves struggling to access food. (...) One video posted to social media, but not verified, shows a man screaming on the phone to the authorities, saying he is starving to death."

Heel veel beelden van mensen die zich wél in het geschetste beeld herkennen, na de breek. Ook worden honden en katten massaal gedood. En we durven het eigenlijk niet te schrijven, maar kunnen ze die dan niet eventjes eten? Ondertussen lijken sommige districten in China's grootste stad hun lockdowns geleidelijk aan te verzachten. Maar voor je het weet is het herfst!
