Zeven hoge commandanten van de Iraanse Islamitische Revolutionaire Garde voortijdig uitgecheckt. Zoveel 'hoogwaardige doelwitten' tegelijk op 1 locatie deed Israël waarschijnlijk besluiten de aanval door te zetten, ondanks dat het op het 'onschendbare' diplomatieke terrein van de Iraanse ambassade te Damascus plaatsvond.
De grootste vis is toch wel Mohammad Reza Zahedi (wiki), voormalig commandant van de IRGC-lucht- en landmacht en een van de hoogste commandanten binnen de Quds Force. Hij was Irans allerhoogste official in Syrië en Libanon en was naar verluidt verantwoordelijk voor "the unit’s operations in Syria and Lebanon, for Iranian militias there, and for ties with Hezbollah, and thus the most senior commander of Iranian forces in the two countries. Israel’s Army Radio said Zahedi oversaw all Iranian terrorist operations against Israel from Syria, Lebanon “and the Palestinian sphere."
Israël heeft officieel nog geen betrokkenheid geclaimd, maar ze waren het natuurlijk wel. En Iran zweert wraak, maar dat doet het al sinds 1979. We kijken uit naar de zeven papier-maché gedenkstenen, die kreeg Soleimani na zijn unilateraaltje met Trump immers ook.
